Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal was among the plethora of young fast bowlers who burst onto the scene in this year’s IPL. The left-arm quick has revealed the impact of head coach Ashish Nehra in his time with the Gujarat Titans.

Dayal was part of the impressive Titans bowling unit that featured the likes of Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan. He bagged 11 wickets and was impressive with his 1/18 in three overs in the final against Rajasthan Royals. He would like to assert more control in the upcoming tournaments.

After his side’s maiden title triumph in IPL 2022, the 24-year-old revealed his relationship with head coach Ashish Nehra.

“I would only like to say that Ashish Sir is like a blessing for me, he is like a fatherly figure. Ashish sir’s talks had so much effect on me, when other people used to see me and him talk, they used to say that Ashish sir sees himself in me when he was young,” Dayal said to India News.

Dayal also revealed the advice he received from the former Indian quick, that helped him during the tournament.

“He didn’t use to put much pressure mentally. He used to say that whatever I have done earlier in the Syed Mushtaq Ali, I have to do the same thing here, just that the exposure is a little more here,” the Titans’ pacer added.

‘Just go and express yourself’ – Nehra’s words of wisdom to Dayal

Nehra is known for his calm demeanor, and he told the young pacer from Prayagraj to enjoy the game and to express himself on this big stage.

“He said that you have done everything for such things only, so just go and express yourself, that you will not get a better platform than this, and it is very important to enjoy this thing,” added Dayal.

The young left-arm quick also relished the attention that he got from the World Cup winner during the nets. He lauded the coach for his efforts as such special treatment is unheard of at any other franchise.

“The only thing he says is that once you have picked up the ball, you shouldn’t look back. Apart from the team practice, he used to come specially to get me to bowl in the nets separately. I have not heard in any franchise a coach giving so much time to a player especially,” revealed Dayal.
