Highest Partnerships in ODIs by Wicket: Well according to many critics, if something can win you matches, it’s the action when two batsmen come together and decide to milk the opposition bowlers to an extent that they have no other option to submit; a long-term on-field affair – partnership. Throughout the history, we have seen partnerships changing the course of the game just like see-saw inclinations. And partnerships hold the key for a team in the shorter formats of the game. It not only unsettles the opposition, but also make them vulnerable to dip low in the game. Having said such things, let us recapitulate on the Highest Partnerships in ODIs by Wicket: 1st Wicket, 286 – Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya: Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga. Chasing down a gigantic total of 322 runs, the opening partnership took Sri Lanka to cruise control in the game. Tharanga scored 109 runs off 102 deliveries with 14 fours and a single six, while Jayasuriya scored 152 runs in just 99 deliveries with 20 fours and 4 sixes. The partnership contributed 286 runs in just 191 deliveries. Sri Lanka won the match by 8 wickets. West Indies, opting to bat first, lost their first wicket right in the second delivery of the innings. It was Gayle and Samuels who took up the charge and scored a record breaking partnership. Gayle went onto score 215 runs off 147 deliveries with 10 fours and 16 sixes. That was the first double ton in a World Cup match. Samuels, on the other hand complimented Gayle well and remained unbeaten on 133 runs off 156 deliveries with 11 fours and 3 sixes. West Indies won the match by 73 runs as per the D/L method. 3rd Wicket, 258 – Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin: Denesh Ramdin. This time it was Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin, who went onto strike a 258 runs partnership against Bangladesh in August, 2014. After being 2 down for 12, these two steadied the innings for West Indies. Bravo scored 124 runs off 127 deliveries while Ramdin scored 169 runs of 121 deliveries with 8 fours and 11 sixes. West Indies posed a total of 338 runs in the match and won comprehensively by a margin of 91 runs. 4th Wicket, 278* – Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja: Mohammed Azharuddin. After being 3 down for 26 runs in the 9th over, India managed to pose a total of 301 runs on the board, courtesy of such a brilliant partnership. Azharuddin remained unbeaten at the score of 150 runs from 150 deliveries with 17 fours and a six, while Ajay Jadeja remained unbeaten on 116 off 121 with 6 fours and 2 sixes. India won the match by a margin of 32 runs. 5th Wicket, 256* – David Miller and JP Duminy: David Miller JP Duminy. Both of them literally hammered the Zimbabwean bowling. Miller went onto score an unbeaten 138 runs from 92 deliveries while Duminy scored 115 off 100. The partnership scored the runs in 178 deliveries. South Africa posed a total of 339 runs and won the match by 62 runs. 6th Wicket, 267* – Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi: Grant Elliott – Luke Ronchi. After being down to 93 for 5 in 20 overs, New Zealand went onto score 360 runs in that ODI against Sri Lanka, courtesy of the destructive partnership. Elliott scored 104 runs off 96 deliveries with 7 fours and 2 sixes while Ronchi scored 170 off 99 with 14 fours and 9 sixes. New Zealand won the match by a comprehensive margin of 108 runs. 7th Wicket, 177 – Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid: Jos Buttler Adil Rashid. On 9th June, 2015, these two made a sensational and equally destructive partnership to take England to a total of 408 runs against the World Cup runners up, New Zealand. Buttler scored 129 runs off 77 deliveries with 13 fours and 5 sixes Rashid stood at 69 runs off 90 deliveries with 7 fours and 2 sixes. England registered their biggest victory in ODIs in the match and they won by 210 runs. 8th Wicket, 138* – Justin Kemp and Andrew Hall: Justin Kemp. After being down for 136 for 7, Kemp and Hall made this centurion partnership to take the score to 274 runs. Kemp scored 100 runs off 89 deliveries with 6 fours and 7 sixes while Hall scored 56 runs from 47 deliveries. South Africa won the match by 106 runs. 9th Wicket, 132 – Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga: Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga. Just then a fantastic cameo from Malinga aided with the batting brilliance of Mathews took Sri Lanka past the victory line. Mathews remained unbeaten on 77 off 84 while Malinga scored 56 runs off 48 deliveries with 6 fours and 2 sixes. 10th Wicket, 106* – Sir Vivian Richards and Michael Holding: Sir Viv Richards. The West Indian innings portrayed the real meaning of what it is like to have an anchoring batsman in the squad. 9 off the 11 batsmen were dismissed in single figures still West Indies managed to pose a total of 272 runs on the board, courtesy of a 189-run innings from Sir Vivian Richards. At last, Holding assisted Sir Viv to set up such a total. He remained unbeaten on 189 off 170 with 21 fours and 5 sixes while Michael Holding remained unbeaten on 12 off 27.
