'His mind works amazing during chases' - Rishabh Pant picks MS Dhoni as his favourite batting partner

Ever since breaking into the national side, Rishabh Pant has always been assigned the daunting task of filling the void left by veteran MS Dhoni. Despite donning the national jersey across all formants, Pant has often been scrutinized for his inconsistent performances.

Pant, who still has a long way to go before he cements his spot in the national side, was criticized for lack of consistency in his batting. It was often seen that Pant was dismissed while playing a ruthless or irresponsible shot. Furthermore, the southpaw also started receiving flak for his poor glovework.

Keeping the criticism aside, not many fans would raise a finger to argue that Pant is undoubtedly one of the brightest prospects of Indian cricket. Despite KL Rahul being consistent at the wicketkeeping slot in the limited-overs format, Pant is touted to bounce back and prove his mettle in the near future.

In his short career so far, Pant has shared the dressing room with many India stalwarts. When he was asked to choose his favourite batting partner, Pant named none other than his predecessor– MS Dhoni. Pant said that Dhoni effectively lays out plans while batting and that all his partner has to do is follow his lead while being in the middle.

“My favourite batting partner is Dhoni but it’s very rare that I get the chance to bat with him. If he’s out there, everything remains sorted. He lays out the plan and you just have to follow his lead. The way his mind works is amazing, especially during chases,” Pant said during a Twitter interaction with Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals’ Pant also took names of two Indian stalwarts– Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Talking about the IPL, the youngster revealed that he has enjoyed batting with Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Pant while donning the DC jersey. In the 54 matches that Pant has played across all editions of IPL so far, he has scored 1736 runs at a blistering strike rate of 162.69.

“I enjoy batting even with Virat bhai and Rohit bhai… actually, whenever you’re batting with any of these seniors, it’s a different experience altogether. You have fun with them. You realise how their mind works. It’s different chemistry… even with Iyer and Shiki bhai in the IPL,” Pant added.
