Hopefully I’ll get a chance to play for India again and Retire Gracefully: Sehwag: Out of favour Indian opener Virender Sehwag recently spoke to The Indian Express on a wide range of topics. In that he said usually players watch their videos to sort out the mistakes but he used to watch his videos just to enjoy his boundaries. He also stressed the importance of hitting the ball while batting.
He said I feel hitting the ball is the most important thing in batting. Picking the ball early is important. If you are picking it early and hitting the ball, I don’t think it matters much whether your feet are in the right place or your head is in the right place. Till the time you are hitting the ball down the ground, meeting the ball nicely, and you’re hitting fours and sixes you are okay. Players, generally, watch their videos to find out their mistakes. I was watching my videos just to enjoy my boundaries.
Sehwag also admitted that he was initially troubled in reading the line and length of the ball when he wore spectacles. He also said that he does not have any eye problem but have a power of -0.5.
I had a problem when I was on the England tour and the Australia tour (both in 2011). I had headaches and a lot of eye pain. In England and Australia, after every Test match I was going to eye-specialists and each time they told me that my eyes are absolutely fine. After the Australia series in India, I saw my family doctor, Harsh Kumar, who told me that I don’t have an eye problem but I have power of minus 0.5. Then he gave me glasses and it took almost a year to adjust to them. I was no longer able to pick the ball quickly from the hand. So it became difficult for me to react quickly, Sehwag said,
He is also hopeful of playing for India once again and promised that he will try his best for that. Everybody wants to play for India. Hopefully I will get a chance to play for India again and retire gracefully. I’ll try my best, he said.
