Huge response to the Hyderabad Cricket Association's selection trials

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), who are known to be in the news for their corrupt practices especially in the academies and local leagues have now decided to select players for 2-day leagues through open selections under the new administrative body.

HCA has called for the selections of the A Division 2-day league matches on Monday which was attended by as many as 300 promising and aspiring players from the region at the Gymkhana ground. The number is quite huge given the selections were for the local league only and the players got to know about this open selections only a day before.

In a statement on Sunday, Hyderabad Cricket Association has called up the open selections for the league on Monday. Looking at the response, the HCA has stated in a press release on Monday that they have decided to continue the selection process for the whole week and also requested the parents of the children not to fall into the traps of agents to secure a place in a club team by paying money.

“There was a tremendous response for selection of 2-day league teams of HCA. The selection process will continue during the week and today more than 300 players have reported. Boys who want to be considered for selection can report to the Selectors during the course of this week and each one will be given a proper and fair opportunity to show their skills.”

“HCA further requests the parents of children not to fall prey of agents and pay money for securing a place in League Teams of Registered clubs, since HCA is providing opportunity directly to all genuine players to play in the state leagues.”

Speaking to TOI about the selections on Monday, the HCA secretary Shesh Narayan said, “The demand for a spot in a two-day team is very high and that’s the reason why these unscrupulous elements are trying to encash on it. The erstwhile administrators only paid lip service and made no effort to curb this menace. To ensure that talented youngsters are not deprived of a chance to play in the 2-day league, we are conducting open selections,”

“This is a historical day as never before were selections held on such a scale for the league teams. The response is overwhelming and hence we have decided to continue with the selections for a few more days so that the players get enough opportunity.” He added.
