I agree with Ravi Shastri, Conflict of Interest rule should be thrown in the bin: Madan Lal

Former Indian pacer Madan Lal has echoed Ravi Shastri’s opinion on the ‘Conflict of Interest’ matter. The former Team India head coach had stated that people have been unnecessarily dragging BCCI into court because of this issue. He also asserted that the ‘C’ word is restricting personalities like Sachin Tendulkar from having a stake in Indian cricket. Shastri’s opinions have now received a thumbs up from his former teammate Madan Lal.

For the unversed, former players can’t perform two different roles while holding a job in the administration as per the conflict of intrest. Prominent personalities like Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have also come under the scanner due to the same. Speaking on the matter, Madan Lal, like Shastri, also said that BCCI should throw this rule into the bin.

“I totally support what Ravi Shastri has said. Two rules that were made by the Lodha Committee, one is the conflict of interest. It should be thrown in the bin. It will bring mediocrity in cricket and those people will be in office who can be easily approached. Former cricketers should be holding the position in the office, as they can maintain the dignity of the game and the board,” Madan Lal was quoted as saying as per the Times of India.

“Secondly, the age factor that was changed from 60 to 65, I would say that the age group should be more than 70. Cricketers are fit and can perform all the duties. We need good people for the board, who are not easily approachable. And our board always had good people, who not only performed well in the game but also made BCCI into a billion-dollar industry,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shastri had called the ‘Conflict of Interest’ complete nonsense. “It is over the top this conflict of interest. I was not really for it. A masseur with the Indian team cannot work with an IPL team. Conflict of interest is absolute nonsense. It should be thrown into the bin. For me to not be allowed to do commentary if I am India coach, how is that conflict of interest?” Shastri said to Indian Express’ Express E Adda.
