Sunrisers Hyderabad’s head coach Trevor Bayliss didn’t wish to spill the beans as far as selecting the playing eleven for the team’s upcoming game against Rajasthan Royals was concerned. On Saturday, September 25, the Orange Army slumped to their eighth defeat in nine games in IPL 2021 after their five-run loss to the Punjab Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

On being asked if England’s Jason Roy is in contention for the next game, Bayliss didn’t answer in the affirmative. Rather, the veteran said that calls on selecting the eleven will be taken in a team meeting on Sunday, September 26. Roy is yet to get a game for SRH after being roped in as a replacement for Australia’s Mitchell Marsh.

We’ll sleep on that, think about it, says Trevor Bayliss

“Jason Roy is obviously our spare overseas batter. I am sure the management will get together to discuss and pick a team. I am not going to select a team right now. We’ll sleep on that, think about it, and have a selection meeting tomorrow (Sunday),” Bayliss was quoted as saying.

Roy made his IPL debut for the defunct Gujarat Lions in 2017 and then moved to the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals in 2018. But after playing eight matches where he scored 179 runs at 29.83, Roy hasn’t got a chance in the cash-rich T20 league.

After the defeat to PBKS, Kane Williamson and Co. kept languishing at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate -0.637. Baylor said that the batters are letting the team down and the chinks in SRH’s middle-order has been exposed badly.

“I’d put all the batsmen in that category (non-performing). When we have played well in the past, we have got off to a good start with the overseas players. In the middle order, some of the young guys have been exposed to a certain degree,” he stated.

“But we had a lot of experienced guys in the middle, who made mistakes tonight. We have got to be better than that. We have got a game in two days’ time. We have got to turn it around quick,” Bayliss added.
