Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators were up against each other in the 4th match of the ongoing 2021 edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at National Stadium in Karachi. Lahore crushed Gladiators with their comprehensive performance to emerge victorious by 9 wickets and continue their winning streak of 2 games.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Hafeez was at his fluent best throughout the match as he played a sublime knock of not out 73 runs off 33 deliveries including 5 boundaries and 6 maximums to help Lahore chase the above-par total of 178 runs posted by the opposition on the board. After the game, the right-hander reflected on his innings as he laid stress on the importance of timing the ball correctly.

“I believe this is something I’m working on in the last one and a half years, where I’m not trying to hit it really hard, just time the ball and get power behind it. So that’s really working for me. I need to work really hard to get these things and I’m really happy it’s working for me at the moment,” Mohammad Hafeez said as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Mohammad Hafeez and Chris Gayle share a chat about willow after the game

One of the main highlights of the day was Hafeez sharing a conversation with West Indies power-hitting opening batsman Chris Gayle. Gayle is playing his trade in 2021 edition of the Pakistan League for Quetta Gladiators and is in a blistering form. In the first game of PSL 2021, the 41-year-old had scored 39 runs off 24 deliveries followed by a match-defining knock of 68 runs off 40 balls including 5 boundaries and 5 maximums at a strike rate of 170 against Lahore Qalandars.

After the match between Lahore and Quetta, Hafeez and Gayle were caught on camera while indulging in an animated conversation with each other. When asked about the same, the 40-year-old revealed that he was telling Gayle that he doesn’t have muscles, so he (Hafeez) needs to have a better bat than any other batsmen.

“Chris Gayle was talking about the willow so I told him I don’t have muscles like you so I need to have a better bat than anyone else,” revealed Hafeez.
