I don’t play to show off to anyone, play to make my team win: Wriddhiman Saha

Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha noted the importance of staying in a good frame of mind and always prioritizing the team’s win. After sitting out in the first few games in this IPL season, Saha was given the chance to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill and he gave some good starts at the top of the order by taking advantage of the powerplay.

Against the quality bowling attack of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Saha scored a 38-ball 68 with 11 fours and a six at a strike rate of 178.95 and helped his side chase down a huge total. He has scored 154 runs in five games, and Gujarat has benefited hugely from his good form as Gill has shown vulnerability in the last few games.

Saha noted that he has always wanted to be involved in a winning cause and was delighted to do so in the game against SRH in a big run chase. He added he never plays to prove to anyone and has always wanted to make his team win. Saha added that staying in a clear frame of mind is key as well and said that he has always played on instincts.

“I just played for the team. We had to chase a target of around 200 runs, and I could give the team that necessary start. I could contribute to a winning cause, so that was the main part. I don’t play to show off to anyone, I just play to make my team win,” Saha said.

“I feel the clearer your mind is, the easier it gets to deliver. Because if your mind is cluttered with specific plans for specific bowlers, and then they bowl differently, I won’t be able to perform well. So it’s better to have a clear head and play instinctively, that’s what I prefer,” he added on staying mentally fresh.
