I feel I am in a good position right now: Dinesh Karthik

Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik is one of the most vibrant and happy-go-lucky kind of a cricketer. He takes defeats at his chin and keeps his feet on the ground after sealing memorable victories. Karthik scored a valuable 64 in the 2nd ODI against New Zealand. He not only kept his berth intact but also helped India win the game as they went on to win the series.

Karthik had to be patient all the way. He got an opportunity after a long time as he represented India in the Caribbean earlier this year, after a wait of over 3 years and now he is one of the contenders in the Indian side. He spoke about comebacks and pressure in a recent interview.

“It is always harder to make an international comeback than play for the first time. When you are part of the playing XI after a long time, you have to fight a lot of mental pressure to prove yourself,” Dinesh Karthik told Hindustan Times.

I am in a good position: Karthik

The 32-year-old said that he is in a good position. “I feel I am in a good position right now. I got my chances (against New Zealand) and I am happy to spend good time in the middle and score runs,” Karthik said.

He didn’t opt for a particular slot and said that he is flexible with the options that are on offer. “Right now the coach (Ravi Shashtri) and captain (Virat Kohli) are doing a great job. The team has been on a winning run and it’s great. For me, I would want to contribute in whatever role is given to me.” he added.

On the recent series against the Kiwis, Karthik said that he was surprised to see the improvement in the fitness level of the Indian team. “This team is one of the strongest simply because of the batting depth. Also, I was surprised with the way we were better than New Zealand in fielding.”
