Run-outs are considered to be a major disappointment for any batsman in the cricketing arena. And if it comes at the cost of a colossus like Virat Kohli, it gives the opposition a major breather. India and Australia are currently involved in the Day/Night cricketing affair at the iconic Adelaide Oval stadium. With the coin landing in India’s favour, Kohli and his troops decided to bat first.

The Indian opening duo-Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw could not give the team an ideal start. The latter was bowled by Mitchel Starc’s cracker of a delivery. As the Indian batting unit was reeling at 32 for 2, the Indian skipper donned the hat of responsibility with sheer elan. After Pujara was dismissed at 43 runs, the deputy captain Rahane came in to share a rock-solid stand of 88 runs.

However, a mishap took pace which eventually bundled the team at 244 runs. Just as everything was looking good for the Indian team, Virat succumbed to a silly run-out in the 77th over of day 1. Rahane played an elegant stroke towards Josh Hazlewood which had no-run written all over it.

However, the Mumbai-based batsman made a bad call only to see Virat walking towards the dressing room after scoring a brilliant 88 runs. Hence, the run-out has become the talk-of-the-town in the cricketing fraternity. Post the day’s play, Sanjay Manjrekar, and Glenn McGrath discussed whether there was scope for Rahane to make that decision in that split second.

The Indian veteran pointed out a similar incident that he encountered during his playing days. “I have one similar experience running Sachin Tendulkar out. And I also don’t remember sacrificing my wicket,” Manjrekar said on the ‘Extraaa Innings’ Show on the Sony Sports Network.

Pointing out the reason for the abysmal run-out, McGrath said, “See, because they were looking to take singles, a lot of quick singles and they run quite quick between the wickets. He committed but then he said no straightaway and stopped.

“Whether you’ve got that split second – I’m the worst person to talk to about running between the wickets – but if you’ve just stopped then realise ‘My captain’s going to get run out, I’ve just got to sacrifice my wicket, you’ve got to be really switched on to think like that.”

India shines on Day 2 after a dark Day 1 story

As far as the high-octane match is concerned, India are looking favourites at the moment. India’s pace troika along with the spinning duet has apparently torn down the Aussie batting line-up. The opening pair in the form of Matthew Wade and Joe Burns was castled for a meagre 8 runs respectively. At the end of the second session, Kangaroos were reeling at 88 at the expense of five wickets.
