The cricket fraternity is in complete awe of former India captain and current wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni. For, he guided India to a bilateral ODI series win in Australia with three consecutive fifties that also won him his seventh Man of the Series award in ODIs. Before the start of the series, many doubted Dhoni’s capabilities and asked for him to be dropped in place for Rishabh Pant, but the veteran revived his form, rose to the occasion and stunned his critics.

Following the series win, captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri praised Dhoni not just for his knock but also for his calm demeanour which he is widely known for. Shastri went to the extent of saying that he has seen the legend Sachin Tendulkar get angry at times but he has never seen Dhoni lose his cool.

“He is a legend. He will go down as one of our great cricketers. I have never seen an individual so sound. I have seen Sachin at times get angry. Not this man,” Shastri told the ‘Daily Telegraph’ in an interview.

Dhoni is irreplaceable in the team: Ravi Shastri

The Indian head coach also made it clear that a player of Dhoni’s calibre can’t be replaced until he decides to put curtains on his glorious career. “You can’t. Such players only come once in 30 or 40 years. That is what I tell Indians. Enjoy while it lasts. When he goes you will see a void that will be very hard to fill,” Shastri said.

After Dhoni’s performance in the third ODI, it is safe to say that India have finally found stability in the middle order. But that’s not all that Dhoni brings to the table. His experience of playing international cricket for fourteen years and winning three ICC trophies as the captain will be very crucial to India’s luck in the World Cup which begins in May in England.

“He has the best angle. He sees things. He is great with the guys, they all worship him. This entire team has been built by him because he was captain for 10 years. To have that kind of respect in the dressing room and experience is massive,” Shastri explained.

The Indian team will now travel to New Zealand for a five-match ODI series and three T20Is.
