Shikhar Dhawan, the left-hand Indian opener, didn’t have a great year as far as cricket is concerned. He was ruled out from the ICC World Cup 2019 after getting a fracture in his thumb. He returned back into the squad on West Indies tour but failed to perform.
Recently, he sustained a knee injury because of which he didn’t feature in the series against the Men in Maroon. Moreover, there were several questions raised on his form when he was playing for the national team. But, now ‘Gabbar’ of Team India has come up with his desire to come back stronger in the upcoming year with some brilliant performances.
The 34-year-old opener played a total of 12 T20Is in 2019 and managed to score only 272 runs at a low strike rate of 110.57. On several occasions, he has been brought under the scanner of the former cricketers for his run-a-ball approach. Recently, KL Rahul opened for Team India in the series against West Indies and proved his worth as an opener. Now, it has left Dhawan position in the team in a dilemma.
Shikhar Dhawan is excited for the new year
Shikhar Dhawan said that he will embrace a fresh start with the new year. He struggled a lot in the concluding year with being hit on the finger, then on the neck and many more. He added the fact that injuries are part of a player’s life and no one can do much about it. However, he is ready to come back stronger as he has not forgotten how to bat and he is eager to play some big knocks for his side.
“This is a fresh start for me. I was hit on the finger, then on the neck, bruised eye and then stitches on the knee. Good news is New Year is coming. I am happy that KL has done so well. He has grabbed the opportunity. So I am going to go and express myself,” said the left-hander.
“Injuries are natural. You’ve got to accept that. It’s fine and I don’t create a big fuss about it. The start-stop thing doesn’t affect me as I haven’t forgotten how to bat. My class is permanent and I will score runs,” Shikhar Dhawan as quoted by Sportstar.
