Pakistan’s Imad Wasim has recently received the Best T20 Player Of The Year Award and has retained the Number 1 ranking in the same format. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is just five points behind him in the ICC rankings. Imad was recently seen starting the proceedings for Pakistan in the T20I series against World XI.

Former PCB coach Waqar Younis has said that it will be very challenging for Imad to break into the Test squad. He said that Imad does not spin the ball and therefore relies heavily on wicket to wicket bowling, “I’ll work hard, not only as a bowler but a batsman too. Whatever Waqar bhai says is for the betterment of players. I aim to get into Tests too,” said Imad.

Will work on batting: Imad

On hearing Waqar’s comments, Imad said that he will work hard on his bowling as well as his batting. The Swansea born all-rounder has earlier that he is not satisfied with only being the best bowler and wants to be the best all-rounder in the shortest format. West Indies are likely to visit Pakistan in November, and therefore some of the players including Imad and Fakhar Zaman might miss the initial phase of the Global T20 League, the inaugural edition of the South African league.

Imad was earlier picked by Stellenbosch Kings. Interestingly, Imad’s skipper in the league will be none other than the captain of the World XI side which feature in the Independence Cup- Faf du Plessis. Faf was optimistic about Imad’s presence and he said “The Windies tour has three T20s only, the schedule will be manageable.”

Imad’s inconsistency with the willow

Imad hasn’t been that consistent with the bat. He was promoted up the order during the CPL, while playing for Jamaica Tallawahs, but could not make much of an impression. Even in the recently concluded Independence Cup, Imad played a few cameos but not many big scores.“If you look at the WXI series, I did not face many balls. I need more exposure to be consistent.” Imad said.
