Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has failed to impress with the bat in the ongoing IPL so far which will be worrying signs for him and the franchise progressing into the tournament. Dhoni was removed from the captaincy of Pune before the start of this edition and he might be feeling the heat now with 3 failures in as many games.

Especially with guys like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant going great guns in the tournament so far, Dhoni has to perform consistently to retain his place in the national side. Given the amount of experience, Dhoni’s big knock might be just around the corner. India Today asked former speedster Brett Lee about the same during the launch of ‘Bowling Masters’ Excerpts.

When asked if Dhoni will feel the heat after 3 failures on a trot Brett said that he is a champion player and it’s just a matter of time before he gets back to form. “Yes. But we know how good Dhoni is. We wish him well. We know he is a wonderful character and how good he is for the game. I hope he can get a big one in the next game,” Lee told India Today.

Lee further added that it is healthy to have competitors around which gives an individual the motivation to perform. “That’s good. It’s healthy when you have young guys pushing you. I know when I was playing for Australia and there were young guys coming through bowling 140’s and you know your spot is never guaranteed. But that makes you hungry and train harder,” Lee quipped.

He also felt that Dhoni should go back to his natural attacking style of batting and express himself out on the field. “I think MS Dhoni should try and play his natural game. I am not going to sit here and say this is how he should bat because he has been a wonderful player batsman and captain. Just hope he can play his natural game.”
