Former India cricketer, IPL commentator, and politician- Harbhajan Singh has said that he will be donating his Rajya Sabha salary towards the welfare and education of the daughters of farmers. Harbhajan was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Punjab last month and has revealed he will be contributing all his political earnings towards a good cause.
He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on December 24, 2021. Post his retirement from the sport, it was said that he would join either BJP or Congress to start off his political career, but that did not happen as he was elected unopposed to represent the Aam Aadmi Party side of Punjab.
Harbhajan took to Twitter to make the announcement as he tweeted: “As a Rajya Sabha member, I want to contribute my RS salary to the daughters of farmers for their education & welfare. I’ve joined to contribute to the betterment of our nation and will do everything I can. Jai Hind”

Harbhajan represented team India from 1998 to 2016
Harbhajan Singh was India’s permanent player till 2012, but with emergence of likes of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, he kept moving in and out of the team. He was a part of the 2011 world cup winning squad and played a crucial role in India’s victory. He was a part of the Mumbai Indians side for a long time and also played for Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders till IPL 2021.
Harbhajan also picked a hat-trick in the Test format of the game and scalped a total of 417 wickets in the 103 Test matches that he played. He also had a long ODI career, having played 236 games with 269 career ODI wickets. In the short format of the game, that is the T20Is, he had 25 wickets in 28 matches.
Apart from the 2011 World Cup-winning side, he was also a part of the 2007 World T20I champions team and led the Mumbai Indians to victory in their first-ever Champions League T20 (CLT20) title.
