West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell is determined to represent West Indies in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup, slated to start in Australia in October this year. The powerful all-rounder played his last T20I match for the Men in Maroon in the 2021 T20 World Cup against Australia. The right-handed batter smashed an unbeaten 18 off seven balls in that match but his side went on to lose that contest. Since then, Russell has not been seen in the international arena, but he actively participates in several franchise-based domestic leagues around the world. At present, Russell is playing in the 2022 The Hundred competition and will return to the West Indies to represent the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) starting this month. Meanwhile, West Indies head selector Desmond Haynes has suggested good performances during CPL will play a vital role for the players to get selected in the West Indies squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. “If there is a competition that is run by the West Indies (and) somebody is playing well, I think his name should really come up for selection,” Haynes said recently.
