Royal challengers Bangalore batsman AB de Villiers has said no to wicket keeping as far as this year’s Indian Premier League is concerned. AB de Villiers has a consistent back injury which has often kept the player out of the longest format of the game. He also gave the Momentum One Day Cup final at Centurion a miss due to the same problem which has been haunting the batsman for years.

The superstar has further claimed that he could go on to miss five years of cricket if he keeps with the back problem that he has. AB de Villiers has missed the first match of the Indian Premier League against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and would be definitely hoping to feature in the next.

The Proteas player quoted by Cricbuzz, “I will definitely not consider wicket keeping. I’ll miss the next five years if I start keeping again. My back won’t allow that. My back is sore because of all those years of keeping.”

With KL Rahul ruled out of the whole season of the Indian Premier league, RCB coach Daniel Vettori was hoping to utilize the abilities of AB de Villiers behind the wickets. But now as the player has turned down any possibilities of the same it looks like RCB has to settle with Kedar Jadhav.

The hard-hitting batsman who was supposed to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Sunrisers Hyderabad is still unlikely for the next game and has said that he will not take the field unless he is 100 percent fit.

“Even though I’m very very keen to get on the field, I’ll make sure that I’m 100% fit. Because, if you go on the park and you’re 90%, you might be out for longer anyway. It doesn’t make sense. I am going to test it out this afternoon. We’ve got a nets session. I’ll hit a couple of balls, see what it feels like, and then we’ll make a call.”
