The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the ‘Player of the Month’ awards for April 2022. Several star players from both men’s and women’s categories have been nominated for their stellar show over the 22 yards. It must be noted that a lot of international cricket didn’t take place in the month gone by. However, there were still some brilliant performances.

In the men’s category, the South African duo of Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer has been nominated alongside Oman opener Jatinder Singh. Maharaj was at his best during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home and played an instrumental role in his side’s 2-0 triumph. He took a total of 16 wickets in the series including a couple of five-wicket hauls. Not to forget, he also made some handy contributions with the bat.

Simon Harmer made a sensational comeback to international cricket

Speaking of Maharaj’s partner in crime, Simon Harmer also spun his web around the Bangladesh batters. Making his comeback to international cricket after over six years, the veteran off-spinner made the red cherry talk and gave a hard time to the visiting team batters. Overall, he took 13 wickets in the series and like Maharaj, he also scored handy runs.

As far as Jatinder Singh is concerned, the Oman international was phenomenal in the tri-series involving Scotland and PNG played in Dubai, which was a part of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. In four outings, the right-handed batter slammed 259 runs with three fifty-plus scores, including a ton.

Coming to the women’s category, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy is the frontrunner to get the honour as she scored a match-winning 170 off 138 deliveries in the finals of the Women’s World Cup 2022 against England. From the English camp, Nat Sciver has been nominated for her fighting 121`-ball 148 in the summit clash, which eventually went in vain.

Uganda all-rounder Janet Mbabazi also finds a mention in this elite list as she was in stunning form during the T20I tri-series between Uganda, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in Windhoek. She scalped 11 wickets in six matches at a sensational economy of 5.60.
