ICC come up with a confusing question for the fans on Twitter

Cricket is a game which follows the laws strictly no matter what. Many times, it is argued that the rules and regulations should be revisited. On Sunday, there was a floodlight failure at the Eden Gardens during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite there being enough light to keep on playing, the officials decided to stop it for close to 12 minutes.

Similarly, an image is trending on social media from gully cricket in which the bails are intact and hilariously the middle-stump has been uprooted. One of the fans asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to give the verdict and they decided to ask it to the fans.

Now, according to the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a batsman can’t be given out unless the bails are dislodged or disturbed from its grooves. The world cricket body came up with a question for the followers of the game on its Twitter handle on Sunday and various opinions unfurled on the same.

ICC only gives the verdict

After looking at the various responses from the fans, the ICC later came up with a response adjudging the batsman out in that case. According to the law 29.1.1, The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground.

According to the picture which is going viral at the moment, the wicket is clearly struck out of the ground and the batsman is dismissed. “….. and its’s OUT. Tough luck to the batter (if you can say that having your middle peg knocked out!)” ICC’s tweet in response read which must have summed up the debate in the end. The reactions though poured in for both the verdicts and it was good to see that there were few who were aware of the laws.

Bails aren't dislodge, but still it is out as the wicket is out of the ground. Either bails are dislodged or wicket is uprooted, it is given out
