England is keen on using the Decision Review System (DRS) when they tour India next month. The English team is scheduled to play 5 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is during their long stay. International Cricket Council (ICC) is also interested in promoting the DRS during the Test series. Being a long series, the DRS could well come in handy for both teams.

Crucial decisions will impact the series outcome and hence the visitors are pushing for its implementation. Among the Test playing nations, India is the only country that has had a defensive stand on using the technology. They have used DRS in the ICC events and also in a few bilateral series earlier. However, they have had their issues regarding the accuracy of the technology.

Among the ones against it, some experts believe that using DRS takes away the element of luck from the game. The others feel the hawk eye might not be correct all the time.

As per the reports in The Daily Mail, an English newspaper, International Cricket Council (ICC) will try to negotiate with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to adopt the DRS. ICC general manager Geoff Allardice is scheduled to travel India this week along with a representative from ball-tracking technology company Hawk Eye to accomplish the same.

“Next week’s meeting is to discuss the recommendations from the DRS technology testing project (conducted by MIT engineers), along with improvements in HawkEye ball-tracking technology that have been introduced over recent years,” the ICC spokesperson quoted.

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli recently quoted that they might consider using it at some stage soon. “We will certainly look to probably introduce it (the DRS) in the future,” quoted Kohli. He affirmed that there have been discussions on the same. The debates have had their outcomes. Ball tracking and Hawk Eye have been the key issues.

“These are the things we have discussed. These are things we have had meetings on. Because there were some areas that we felt can be debated. Especially ball-tracking and Hawk Eye,” he added.

On a more generic note, Kohli manifested that DRS can surely be considered and discussed. He remarked, “But, all in all … I personally feel these things can be discussed and debated on.”
