At the moment, it would seem as though Zimbabwe cricket is in an ongoing crisis, something that began with the culmination of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003. With several teams opting not to play in the country and therefore forfeiting points, the most part of the decade has seen Zimbabwean cricket take a massive hit.

However, with the ICC making an initial payment for the rebuilding of the same, it would seem as though they finally have some capital to work with as they aim at the resurrection of the board and the sport in the country, so to speak.

“The payment is part of an initial payment that forms part of a controlled funding payment plan, the full details of which are still to be completed,” the statement added.

‘A welcome relief for the ZC staff and players’

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board and the Council are working together to ensure that the sport of cricket is fostered in parts of the country as well. The payments come after the board has handed over the necessary budgets required for growing the sport in the country. The statement also read that this did indeed brought a welcome relief to the staff and the players alike as the recovery process of Zimbabwe cricket is underway.

“ZC and the ICC are working together to ensure ZC meets the conditions of the ICC-controlled spending process so that the monthly cash distributions from the ICC can be finalized. Payment plan proposals will be discussed and communicated to all outstanding creditors once this process has been concluded.

“This brings welcome relief to the current staff and players and is the first step in the recovery process of cricket in Zimbabwe to its former health and strength.”
