England are already on the verge of their maiden defeat in the five-match Test series against India. The third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham has thus far been equivalent to a nightmare for them. Apart from the poor performance on the cricket pitch, the team has more reasons to worry as their experienced fast bowler Stuart Broad has been fined 15 percent of the match fees.
The 32-year old speedster was found to have breached Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Broad faces ICC’s wrath
The incident occurred in the 92nd over of India’s first innings on the third day’s play of the ongoing Test. The Nottingham-born pacer dismissed Rishabh Pant, the Delhi-born cricketer who replaced Dinesh Karthik and made his debut in the longest format of the sport. Broad dished out a wide delivery and Pant went after it with all his might. However, the leather found the inside edge of the bat and cannoned into the stumps.
After the dismissal, the fast-bowler went towards the 20-year-old debutant and hurled some nasty words at the youngster. The batter buckled down and somewhat got under the skins of the Englishmen after which Broad nipped him out. Later, the bowler admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.
The charges were levelled by Marais Erasmus and Chris Gaffaney, the on-field umpires and Aleem Dar, the third umpire. Moreover, one demerit point was also added to the fast bowler’s disciplinary record. In the meantime, Twitterati was delighted after ICC slapped the seasoned campaigner.
Here is how Twitter reacted

— NProjer (@justwondered1) August 21, 2018
