Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has suffered many tenacious and difficult moments in his international cricket career. He was involved and termed to be the kingpin of the spot-fixing scandal in England for which he was subsequently banned for five years along with fellow Pakistani teammates at that time, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. Butt has not been preferred for national team’s selection despite some decent performances in domestic cricket. In the present situation, he seems to have landed himself in a troublesome situation once again.

ICC to investigate Ajman All Stars T20 League

The International Cricket Council (ICC)  has given a clear indication that a proper investigation by its Anti-Corruption Unit will be initiated for the recently held Ajman All Stars T20 League, organised in the UAE. The competition attracted a lot of attention after videos of some bizarre and shocking dismissals surfaced on social media from the match.

Butt featured in the league along with some other former Pakistan cricketers like Hasan Raza and Muhammad Khalil. After some serious scrutiny, the league has now been disowned and also termed as an illegal venture by the Emirates Cricket Board and Ajman Cricket Council.

It was an amateur level event

In a recent conversation with one of the media agencies, Salman revealed that he had opted to feature in this league only because he was not selected for the one-day cup by his state. After the reaching for the competition in UAE, the left-hand batsman realised that this just an amateur level event, which did not include any major officials.

“I went there as I was not picked for the national regions one-day cup by Lahore and I was doing nothing. But when I reached there, I realised it was just an amateur level event which had no match referee, ICC anti-corruption representative or even scorers,” said Butt as quoted by Sportstar.

The former Pakistan captain mentioned that he played only two matches in the tournament and then left for Dubai. He is also satisfied that the ICC is currently investigating this matter as the tournament had a lot of flaws in the conduct.

“Since the spot-fixing scandal, I try to stay as far as possible from controversies. I am happy the ICC is investigating the event because there were a lot of flaws in it. But I played just two games and then went away to Dubai,” he added.
