Singapore made their T20I debut in grand style with a comfortable 33-run win against Qatar in the opening game of the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Singapore, the hosts of the tournament, posted 186/7 in their 20 overs. All the top four batsmen scored 30+ runs to set the platform for a big total. Janak Prakash and skipper Amjab Mahboob took three wickets apiece to restrict Qatar to 153/9.

Singapore might not have played a T20I prior to this game but won 8 out of nine T20 games they played in 2017 and 2018. In the second game, the home team will take on Kuwait who began the tournament with a defeat. Chasing a target of 163, Kuwait were 82/3 from 12 overs as their captain Muhammad Kashif scored a fifty. In hope of matching the RRR, Kuwait kept losing wickets and were bowled out for 120 in 18 overs.
