The Women’s World Cup 2022 is up and running. However, to make things even more exciting, Australia will be taking on England in match three of the mega tournament. The two countries have for long dominated World Cup cricket. While Australia has won the coveted trophy a record six times, the defending champions, England, have taken home the title four times so far.
Both teams are coming off some good practice leading into their respective campaigns. While England has won each of their two warm-up games against Bangladesh and South Africa, Australia won their game against West Indies before going down in their second warm-up match to New Zealand.
The two sides have a well-rounded squad that they can boast of and as always will start the tournament as favourites. While Australia is led by plenty of experience in the likes of Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy, England, has some world-class cricketers in their squad. Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver are a few of the players upon whom England would be relying heavily.
Much like all the other teams in the World Cup, both England and Australia would want to start their campaign on a winning note.

Pitch Report:
The surface at Seddon Park has over the years been a good one for the batters. It has played true with not a lot on offer for the bowlers. The sides batting first have managed to put up decent totals.
However, the ball comes onto the bat well and it has usually proven to be easy for chasing sides to hunt down the set target on board given the quick outfields. Thus, the captain winning the toss could be inclined to bowl first.

Probable Top Performers
Probable best batter: Alyssa Healy
Australian opening batter, Alyssa Healy, has been her team’s star with the bat upfront for several years now. The wicket-keeper batter is known to take the attack to the opposition right from the word go and would be wanting to do the same in Australia’s first outing at this year’s World Cup. With the wicket in Hamilton expected to support stroke-play, Healy’s game could align perfectly with the conditions.
The 31-year-old batter will look to take the charge of her side and get them off to a blistering start. The batter who is coming off a fine half-century against the hosts, New Zealand, in their final warm-up game, should be confident when walking out to bat at the Seddon Park.
Sophie Ecclestone
England’s left-arm orthodox spinner, Sophie Ecclestone, showed some good form in her team’s final warm-up game leading up to the tournament against South Africa. On a good batting surface, Ecclestone bowled with variations picking three crucial wickets for her side. The young bowler is currently ranked second in ICC Women’s rankings for ODI bowlers and is expected to once again be a vital piece in England’s bowling attack. The 22-year old could well end the game being the highest wicket-taker across the two teams.
Prediction: Australia to win the match.
