Yet again, the World Cup 2019 witnessed a one-sided encounter when Windies faced Pakistan. This encounter was an absolute bummer and the Asian team played worst cricket possible. Their batsmen couldn’t put up a fight and it seemed as if they had a race to get back to the pavilion first. They were attacked by a barrage of short-pitched deliveries from the Windies bowlers and had absolutely no answers.

Andre Russell initiated the collapse by bowling a terrific bouncer to Fakhar Zaman. The left-hander and Babar Azam, with 22 runs each, were the highest scorers in the innings. Poor shot selection was the primary reason for this downfall. At one stage, it didn’t seem as if they would even get to 100 runs. But Wahab Riaz scored 11-ball 18 towards the end to help the team get to 105. While Oshane Thomas picked up four wickets, Jason Holder and Andre Russell accounted for 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

The target, by no means, was a tough ask for the Caribbean side. Chris Gayle provided the team with the ideal foundation in the chase. Nicholas Pooran carried on later in the innings and finished the chase for his team with a six. The youngster remained unbeaten on 34 off 19 balls as Windies chased the target down in 13.4 overs. Mohammad Amir, who was struggling with his form until this point in time, picked up three wickets in the innings. Windies won this game with 7 wickets to spare.

Here are the England Player Ratings for the match

Chris Gayle – 9/10

Chris Gayle played a sensible knock and provided the Windies with a headstart in the chase. He picked his shots and latched onto the loose deliveries with the utmost ease. His innings, where he scored 50 runs off 34 balls, included 6 fours and 3 sixes. However, he couldn’t finish things off for his team and got out just before the finish line.

Shai Hope (wk) – 3.5/10

Shai Hope, the man in-form for Windies, couldn’t register a big score in this match. He only managed to get 11 runs from 17 balls. But he had a great time behind the stumps. Hope did well collecting those bouncers and pouched four catches.

Darren Bravo – 1/10

Darren Bravo bagged a fourth-ball duck in this match. He was outdone by a great delivery from Mohammad Amir and didn’t have many contributions to make on the field either.

Shimron Hetmyer – 2/10

There wasn’t much to do for Shimron Hetmyer in this match. He walked out to bat at number five and remained unbeaten on 7 runs off 8 balls.

Nicholas Pooran – 8/10

Nicholas Pooran put his hitting ability on display in this game. At the same time, he showed that he can also play the waiting game and pace his innings according to the situation. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes and remained unbeaten on 34 runs off 19 balls.

Andre Russell – 8/10

Andre Russell picked up the wickets of two top-order batsmen, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail. It was him who initiated the collapse and showed the other bowlers the way with his short-pitched bowling. In his 3 overs, he only conceded 4 runs and bowled the only maiden over of the innings.

Jason Holder – 7.5/10

Jason Holder opened the bowling for his team and was brilliant the way he attacked the batsmen. He picked up three wickets in the innings which included the likes of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Imad Wasim and Hasan Ali. The all-rounder scores a few extra points for his brilliant, attacking captaincy in the game throughout the innings. But at the same time, this advantage got nullified as he conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.4 while no other bowler conceded more than 5 runs an over.

Carlos Brathwaite – 2/10

Carlos Brathwaite was the fourth change bowler in the innings. Although he doesn’t bowl as quick as others, he managed to keep the pressure sustained on the batsmen by conceding just 14 runs in 4 overs he bowled.

Ashley Nurse – Not Assigned

With the pacers dominating the proceedings in the match, Windies didn’t need to utilise the services of Ashley Nurse. He didn’t get a chance to bat either.

Sheldon Cottrell – 2.5/10

Sheldon Cottrell bowled four overs in this match and was fortunate to get one wicket to his name. The pacer bowled a short delivery down the leg side early on. Imam-ul-Haq was late onto his shot and got a bit of glove of it which was caught comfortably by Shai Hope.

Oshane Thomas – 8.5/10

Oshane Thomas is still in the early days of his international career and marked his World Cup debut with this game. The 22-year-old bowled express pace and was great with his areas where he pitched the ball. Thomas dismissed the dangerous Babar Azam and picked another three wickets in his 5.4-over spell. He loses a few points for the no-balls that he bowled.
