With some improbable permutations in front of them, Pakistan gears up for its final league game against Bangladesh. It has got to be the largest margin of victory in terms of runs if Pakistan is to overhaul New Zealand’s NRR. The task is practically impossible if Sarfaraz Ahmed and his men get to bat second. Thus, effectively, this match between Pakistan and Bangladesh is nothing more than a dead rubber.

There were a few instances where both these teams faltered that put them into a position such as this. A massive collapse against the Windies right in the first game put a huge dent to Pakistan’s NRR. The team even had an opportunity to win against Australia had they kept enough wickets in hand during the chase. An 89-run loss to India further worsened the case for them.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, were pretty much in the contention until they lost to India in their previous outing. They did come close in that match but a few quick wickets lost in the middle overs has thrown them into the well. The team will also rue the loss against New Zealand as the game got quite close and they had a realistic opportunity to get over the line.

However now, both these teams are well past their opportunities and will look to finish on a high instead. Also, this is a historic moment for Bangladesh cricket as they’ll be playing for the first time ever at Lord’s. Bangladesh has even got a better head-to-head record against this opposition since the last World Cup. On all the four instances, the Tigers emerged triumphs. Howbeit, Pakistan leads the overall head-to-head margin by a long way.

How’s the weather expected to be?

The World Cup 2019 has been witnessing some great days of late after the tournament was marred by rain early on. The good weather is likely to hold up for this game as well. Temperatures soar all the way up to 26°C and the humidity will be slightly high in the first hour of play. There might be some swing on offer. But given the dry nature of the pitch, there could be something for the spinners too. The conditions aren’t entirely overcast and won’t dictate the proceedings with the ball much.
