Sri Lanka, in the World Cup 2019, has achieved a lot more than they’d have actually expected at the start of the tournament. Beating a side like England would be one of the highlights for them in the tournament and they’d hope to build it on from here. While two no-result games came in handy, it a still a fabulous achievement to finish sixth on the points table considering the kind of cricket they’ve been playing of late.
This World Cup has given them several answers they were looking for and they have a great opportunity to get out of this transition phase and play some really good cricket in the future. In their final league game, the Islanders will be taking on Team India who are one of the hot favourites to win the tournament. Even though it wouldn’t be easy to defeat the ‘Men in Blue’, the impact of winning can have a significant positive influence on the Sri Lanka team.
India, though, will not get complacent by any means. They will come hard at the opposition as they fancy finishing at the top of the points table. Their last win against Bangladesh was quite an inspiring one as the team was subjected to some great pressure. Yet, there are still a few issues that are to be addressed for the side.
Skipper Virat Kohli and the management should decide upon the combinations they’d like to go ahead with. They played with three seamers in the last game and it worked fine. But they can’t keep someone of Kuldeep Yadav’s calibre out for too long. The number four seems to be sorted but MS Dhoni‘s style of play is another slight concern to be looked at.
How’s the weather expected to be?
It will be a cloudy day in Leeds. There are shower predictions in the morning hours but it is likely to ease up as the day progresses. The chances of rain are unlikely as per the weather forecast and even if it rains, it shouldn’t be much of an interruption to the game. The pitch is expected to be on the slower side and there could be some assistance for the pacers with the new ball due to the cloud cover.
