The 2019 edition of the World Cup is all set to get underway on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales. The direct qualifications took place back in September 2017 where eight teams booked their berth for the mega event. Last year in March, the qualifiers took place in Zimbabwe and Afghanistan along with the Windies managed to qualify for the mega event in England and Wales.

Only 10 teams would be participating in the extravaganza as the International Cricket Council (ICC) pruned down the number of teams from the previous editions. Australia are the reigning World Champions and the team got their hands on the coveted trophy for the fifth time, beating New Zealand in the final at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) under Michael Clarke.

In the meantime, many pundits from across the globe are trying to figure out their versions of the favourites for the 2019 World Cup.  Recently, former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif has joined the bandwagon and has named his favourites for the tournament. “I think India and England are the top favourites for the World Cup,” Kaif was quoted as saying to Hindustan Times.

India and England’s dominating run

England are the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) number-one ranked ODI team. Their recent ODI series victory came against Sri Lanka. Moreover, they also defeated India, the ICC’S number-two ranked ODI team, last year. Quite expectantly, many have perceived them as a contender for the trophy. The Three Lions would next be facing the Windies in an ODI series.

The Men in Blue, on the contrary, have beaten South Africa, Windies, Australia and New Zealand in the last one year. They have formed a bowling attack, which has delivered in all conditions. India are led by the enigmatic Virat Kohli, who is deemed to break a number of records as his career progresses. India’s next assignment is against Australia in the home ODI and T20I series.
