Things didn’t pan out the way Virat Kohli would’ve wanted in the first encounter for India, yet they don’t seem worried considering how strong a unit they’ve planted. Their batting unit faced some serious music after their skipper intentionally decided to put themselves in some pressure-cooker situations before the main games begin.

They’ll now be heading to Wales to face Bangladesh, who didn’t get any action in their first game with the rain gods washing out things even before it started. The Tigers are on a roll in recent times and winning the Tri-series in Ireland comes in as a huge confidence booster. They come into the tournament with huge ambitions, gone are those days when teams could take them for granted.

These sides have had some history in recent years. India defeated Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup final last year, both games went to the final ball of the match. Having suffered some heartbreaking defeats in the hands of India, Mashrafe Mortaza’s men will be desperate to give it back to them in style not just in this game, but also ahead in the tournament.

Playing Combinations

India

Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar are expected to get some time after missing out the previous game. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan surrendered early in the previous game and they need some match practice. All the bowlers in the lineup got to spend some time, with Bumrah starring the show in the few overs he bowled. Ravindra Jadeja is making a very strong case to get himself into the XI.

Squad

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal

Bangladesh

There are no injury concerns for this side and they might make the likes of Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain and perhaps Liton Das to get some batting time. In the bowling department, Abu Hated Rahi and Rubel Hossain are expected to bowl a lot of overs and if there is some purchase for spinners, the likes of Shakib and Mahmudullah could come into picture as well.

Squad

Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Liton Das (wk), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Jayed Rahi

Focus will be on

Dinesh Karthik (India)

The man who was picked ahead of Rishabh Pant just to add his experience to the cause, Dinesh Karthik stayed just two deliveries in the first warmup game. He needs a big score desperately to win the trust of the management. He is still looking to make a case for himself in the XI as a number 4 option and he can’t do that without mustering some good scores. This probably is his last and best chance to impact the selectors.

Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh)

Ever since he landed in Europe, Mustafizur Rahman hasn’t bowled a lot of overs. He had some injury concerns which kept him away from the IPL and after not getting any action in their first fixture, they’ll use this game to the best effect to ensure they head into the tournament on a high. Mustafizur’s canny bowling in the death will be very important for Bangladesh and he needs to find a rhythm soon.
