Chris Gayle has carved a reputation for being one of the most explosive batsmen to have played the game. However, he hasn’t had an overwhelming phase in the last couple of years. Injuries and inconsistent performances have marred his career to a large extent. He was also released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The hulking Jamaican is currently playing in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. He commenced the series with a swashbuckling century against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, thereafter, he has faltered frantically with the willow and hasn’t quite been able to get substantial scores under his belt. He also got out for a golden duck against Scotland in the Windies’ final game in the Super Six stage.

Final hurray in World Cup Cricket for Gayle

However, despite his poor show, Jason Holder’s men qualified for the main event to be held next year in England and Wales. Quite expectantly, Gayle sounded delighted, however, he also made a major announcement surrounding his future endeavours. “I am so happy to have qualified for another World Cup. I just have to stay fit now and we have a young team, but it will be my last World Cup that is for sure, so I am looking forward to it,” Gayle was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The Windies cricketer also thanked hosts Zimbabwe for their hospitality and hailed the crowd present at the venues for their constant support. “It has been a great tournament; the support here in Zimbabwe is always fantastic. It has been quite a while since I have been here, the people have been fantastic. We have come and accomplished what we came for.” Gayle added.
