West Indies and Zimbabwe registered their 3rd consecutive win in the tournament as both the teams won convincingly in their respective groups on the 4th day of qualifiers. Both the teams confirmed their Super Sixes berths along with Scotland who also won three in three. Afghanistan finally won a game as to make the things interesting in the Group B. Papua New Guinea were outplayed by the Netherlands as they lost for the 3rd successive game in the tournament.
All the major stats and numbers recorded during the 4th day of the World Cup Qualifiers:
1 – For the first time in his professional career, Rashid Khan opened the innings. The highest Rashid batted in a professional game before this game was at No.4 for the Afghans in an ODI against Zimbabwe back in 2016.
2 – Kemar Roach and Kesrick Williams taking 4-wicket hauls is only the 2nd instance of two bowlers taking 4-fers in an ODI for West Indies. The other such instance for Windies was in the 1980 Adelaide ODI against England.
4 – West Indies pacers taking ten wickets is only the 4th instance of pacers sharing ten wickets in an ODI inning in Zimbabwe. Last such instance was in the 2005 Bulawayo ODI by New Zealand against India. This is also the first such instance for the Windies since the 2010 Sydney ODI against Australia.
4/43 – Kesrick Williams is only the 2nd West Indies pacer to take a 4-wicket haul in ODI cricket while coming to bowl at as the 6th and later bowler. Phil Simmons took 4/18 against Australia in the 1995 Port of Spain ODI. Overall, Williams is the 6th Windies bowler with a 4-fer in an ODI coming as 6th and later bowler.
8 – Number of ducks in the ODI cricket for William Porterfield. These are the joint most ducks for an Ireland player in this format. Alex Cusack and Paul Stirling also bagged eight ducks apiece in this format.
85 – Anshuman Rath’s 85 against Zimbabwe is Hong Kong’s highest individual score against a full-member nation in ODI format. Anshuman scored 65 on Thursday against Afghanistan.
101 – Rovman Powell became the first West Indian and overall the 16th player to score an ODI hundred while batting at No.7. He scored 101 off 100 balls against Ireland with seven fours and seven sixes.
