Javed Miandad, the former Pakistan batsman, reckons that the upcoming players shouldn’t be concerned about their hairstyles, cricket being their first priority. The 62-year-old didn’t mince any words in saying that if the youngsters wish to focus only on styling their hair, then they should be trying their hands in movies.

Miandad remembered their playing days, saying that back then one wasn’t concerned about their looks while playing the sport. The Karachi-born also asked them to be a tad careful as they become role models going forward in their career.

Sportspersons are role models for young kids: Javed Miandad

“Upcoming cricketers shouldn’t be concerned about their hairstyles etc and if they do, then movies are the right place for them,” Miandad was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on his official YouTube Channel.

“We never used to care how we used to look on the cricket field. But after the match ends, do whatever you want to do. Sportspersons are role models for young kids and they copy whatever their idols do. One should be careful about what kind of example they are setting for the younger fanbase,” the veteran added.

Miandad also had some words of wisdom for the next generation of batsmen and bowlers. In case of the bowlers, he said that one should be practicing hard in the nets alone in order to sharpen their skills. He also asked the batters to bide their time in the middle and never allow impatience to unnerve them.

“They should not throw away their wickets… they should take their time in the middle and enjoy themselves. Same thing goes for bowlers. They should just concentrate on their line and lengths,” he added.

Miandad is one of the prolific run-scorers Pakistan ever has had. In 124 Tests and 233 ODIs, he notched 8,832 and 7,381 runs respectively. Moreover, he managed to rack up 31 centuries and 93 half-centuries at the highest level.

After making his debut against the West Indies way back in June 1975, his career spanned a stunning 21 years. In his first-class and List A career, Miandad managed in excess of 42,000 runs with 93 tons and 240 fifties.
