If I keep listening to him, I will have to retire, says Mitchell Starc on Shane Warne's criticism
Former cricketers had criticised Starc for his poor performance in Adelaide.
Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc is one of the best bowlers in the Australian team. The 28-year old has the pace and skill that can trouble even the best batsmen in the world. After a great start to his career, one can witness a dip in his performance due to recurring injuries. Hence, the left-arm has been on the firing line as many former players have expressed their disappointment with his inconsistency.
Former Australian wrist spinner Shane Warne has always been vocal about his opinion on Starcâs efficacy. It was in 2015 when the legend first criticised the latter for his âsoftâ body language. The speedster, in reply, took a jibe at the remarks that he had ânothing to proveâ to anybody. Now, three years after the exchange, the 49-year old made yet another criticism and the southpaw didnât shy away to respond this time as well.
If I keep listening to Warney, I may as well retire
India had defeated Australia in the first Test match of the ongoing four-match series. While experts from both sides were analyzing how the two teams played, Shane Warne expressed his concern over Mitchell Starc. The greatest leg-spinner ever wrote in a newspaper column that his (Starcâs) performance to an extent was âatrociousâ. He further suggested that the left-armer had lost his rhythm due to frequent injuries and playing more domestic cricket could reinstate his form.
Starc spoke to the media after day three of the second Test on Sunday. When asked about Warneâs criticism, the fast bowler said that he would only have to âretireâ if he brought into such analyses from the man with 700+ Test scalps.âI still donât know what he said. Iâve been told about it. But if I keep listening to Warney, I may as well retire. Iâll just keep going about my stuff, as I have done over the week.â
The southpaw did pick 5 wickets in the first Test match against India and has 3 scalps to his name so far in the second match at Perth. Though the numbers have been good, the likes of Warne havenât been excited with how the speedster is bowling. Having said that, Mitchell Starc continues to ignore the off-field opprobrium and has his focus on delivering the goods for his team.
