Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag recently said that sledging is a very important part of the game. Shewag was always known for his aggressive approach towards the game and especially his brand of batting. The two-times triple century maker was never afraid of going for a maximum, even during the nervous 90’s or 190’s and even 290’s for that matter. He brought up his maiden triple century against Pakistan with a six and has achieved many feats in his typical fashion.

Kohli’s India on a roll

The India team is on a roll, as they sealed the Test series 3-0, handing the Lankans a white wash. The visitors then went on to seal the ODI series by taking an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the 5-ODI series. Virat Kohli’s aggression has often come under the scanner but the manner in which the skipper channelizes it, speaks volume about his maturity at the top level.

“Sledging is an important part of the game but you should never cross the line. However, if there’s no sledging, there won’t be any enjoyment left in the game,” Sehwag told India TV during an exclusive chat.

Controlled aggression is key

The only Indian with two triple hundred in Test and double hundred in ODIs recalled his initial playing days. He said that he never forgot the heated words and the sledging he faced against Pakistan in 1999, during his debut and opined that players should avoid getting personal while sledging.

“You can sledge about somebody’s technique, bowling action or batting stance but it should not get personal,” Viru said. “I think it is Virat Kohli’s aggression which comes out during his celebrations. You can’t call it sledging. And when somebody from the opposition sledges him, he gives it back and it is necessary to give it back. But I feel it should be controlled aggression,” he added.
