Australia’s Glenn Maxwell has found his way back into the Australian squad with his first assignment being the Indian tour. While he is picked on the pretext of his off-spin bowling, something that will certainly come handy in conditions such as India, the fact is that Maxwell is good mates with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. While they might be mates off the field of play, Maxwell has spoken against sledging Kohli in the upcoming series.
“I’m probably not going to say anything to him, that’s for sure,” said Maxwell. “Virat is up and down, I suppose, with sledging. If you (strike) a chord with him, or something gets him agitated to play a big shot, then blokes are more than welcome to go for it. But at the moment, there’s not much agitating him.”
He also attested what Steve Smith had stated on the day of the press conference stating that he did not want to get involved verbally with someone like Virat Kohli. “I think Steve (Smith, Australia captain) said it perfectly in the press conference yesterday – the guys that want to get involved verbally, if that gets the best out of them then go for it.”
Maxwell also went on to add that technique was perhaps not the only thing that was an asset to Virat Kohli’s game, but the simple fact that he was at the top of his game at the moment. “I don’t think it’s anything particular as far as technique or anything like that, I just think he’s so on top of his game at the moment,” Maxwell said.
