Over the years Team India had this transition from one of the most successful opening duo Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir giving the team a dashing start to Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan doing so with some flamboyance as well. Vijay has been a crucial member at the top of the order giving stability to the batting and will now have a greater role since his opening partners are changing quite frequently.

He was playing for his state side Tamil Nadu in the Zonal T20 tournament and on the sidelines praised the new Indian skipper across all the three formats. Vijay brought to notice Virat’s preparedness where he has a plan in place for all the possible situations, equations and developments during a game and that he thinks is a great attribute.

“Kohli’s consistency has been brilliant. He has a game plan for every situation. He is setting a great example for all of us to raise our bar. He is one batsman who has done it across all three formats.” Vijay said.

The 32-year-old made his way into the team on the back of impressive performances for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings but was soon typecast as a Test specialist and has been seldom considered for limited-overs assignments but that doesn’t affect him as he believes he has the level of fitness and skill to do well across all formats.

“Definitely, I’m pushing myself to play all three formats for India. The selection is not in my hands, but I’m working hard on my fitness and skill level. I am already doing well in Test cricket and want to be as consistent as possible.” He added.

He injured himself during the fifth and final Test match against England at his home ground in Chennai and underwent the rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is cent percent fit to start in the one-off Test against Bangladesh.

“I have been training at the National Cricket Academy and as well as in Chennai. The rehab process has been really good. I had a couple of injuries. One was a fracture on my little finger and the other was the shoulder. I have played three games for TN (in the T20s) since the injury. I couldn’t perform, but the way I’m approaching the games, I’m getting the rhythm back. I feel 100% fit now.” Vijay concluded saying.
