IND vs WI: Victorious India U19 squad spotted cheering for senior side in 2nd ODI

The India U19 team, who scripted history by winning the Under-19 World Cup in West Indies, were spotted in the stands at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad during the second IND vs WI One Day International. Former Indian Off-spinner Murali Karthik, on-air said that the Under-19 stars were invited by the Gujarat Cricket Association as their special guests.
The Yash Dhull-led side will be felicitated on this occasion by the BCCI. Special arrangements were made for the youngsters so that they could witness their idols in action in the ongoing ODI series. India won the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup defeating England in the final.
India remained undefeated throughout the Tournament. The young guns began their campaign in grand fashion, defeating South Africa in their opening fixture by 45 runs. From there on it was the Indian juggernaut as they went on to defeat Ireland, Uganda, Bangladesh, Australia before they trounced England in the final. India’s victory against Uganda was the second-highest victory in terms of runs as when they won by 326 runs. Opening batsmen Angkrish Raghuvanshi (278) was the highest scorer for the team meanwhile Vicky Ostwal (12) was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Following India’s victory, BCCI announced a reward of INR 40 Lakhs per squad member and INR 25 Lakhs per staff member. The Youngsters did not have much time to celebrate in the Caribbean as they had to take a long flight home with connecting flights at Amsterdam and Bangalore before reaching Ahmedabad. Given how hectic it has been for the youngsters, their interaction with the seniors after the ODI does not seem likely. A BCCI official said:
“It has been a hectic schedule for the boys who have little time to rest. They will get some rest after they land in India.”
Following their victory, The Indian U19 team had to travel from Antigua to Guyana where they were felicitated by the Indian High Commissioner K.J. Srinivas who is an avid cricket fan. The players were also lucky enough to get photos clicked with the West Indian legend Sir Curtly Ambrose, who was also present at the function.
