The visiting Australia team is having a good time in the warm-up fixture against India A at Mumbai. They managed to pile up a mammoth 469/7 on the board before declaring their innings. Later, they came back strong with the ball kudos to an early double strike by Nathan Lyon. One man who led the counter strike from the India A side was Shreyas Iyer.

The stylish Mumbai batsman struck a brilliant 85 on day 2 of the match. The 22-year old batsman spoke at length about the game after the end of play on day 2. He also reflected back at how the Aussies tried to get under his skins during the innings.

He started off the conversation on a positive note. Iyer is positive about getting a chance in the Indian team sometime soon. However, he added that he does not think too much about the national call-up. Citing the packed status of the team, he is ready to wait for his turn. Talking specifically about his knock in the warm-up match, he noted that he is content with the way he played. He looked happy at the fact that he did not play any predetermined shots.

“I don’t think much on that, I try to play and score as many runs as possible. The side is packed (at present), but I know I will get a chance definitely to play for the country. I am happy they were not predetermined shots. It was important to take charge early and spread out the field. It worked out well,” quoted Shreyas Iyer.

He further went on to praise the Australian spinners. He remarked that the Aussie spinners did not flight the ball much and hence he had to leave his crease in a bid to attack them. Also, he rated them higher compared the Bangladeshi spinners whom he recently faced in the warm-up game prior to the Bangladesh Test.

“They are very good, especially Lyon, they don’t give much flight. They are a lot better than the spinners (I faced) of Bangladesh. I had to come down the track to hit the big shots,” Iyer remarked.

The Australians are known for sledging. Iyer confirmed the same as he mentioned that wicket keeper Matthew Wade and batsman David Warner started to sledge as soon as he had come in to bat. However, he was unfazed with the remarks.

“They started to sledge and said ‘this guy does not have defense, he can play only attacking shots’. It was first Wade and then Warner too joined in. But I am used to this type of sledging, having toured Australia with India A teams in the past,” concluded the Mumbai batsman.
