Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has slammed the Indian board for not making a call on the bilateral series between the neighbouring countries in Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to start on December 15.
During an interview, Miandad said that India “could not be trusted”. He also had a piece of advice for the Pakistan Cricket Board not to dream of holding a series with arch-rivals India in a neutral venue and expressed his disappointment over the manner in which BCCI has handled the issue with the Indian government, which is yet to give a clearance for the series to go ahead.
“What kind of attitude has been adopted by India? It is always India that has created problems for cricketing ties between the two countries,” Miandad said.
His comments came after Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Indian PM Narendra Modi shook hands and had a brief chat on the sidelines of the global climate summit in Paris.
“I would say don’t rush into things and start having high hopes of financial gains from the India series. The Indian board has been constantly changing its stance and it appears they are finding excuses not to play us despite their commitment in the MOU signed between the two boards,” Miandad said.
He said the Indian board had disappointed him and the Pakistan cricket fraternity with their casual attitude towards playing Pakistan
“Our government has clearance so what is stopping them from getting the required permission,” he questioned.
The 58 year old appealed for some strict clauses before going ahead with India.
“I would advise the PCB and even the Sri Lankan cricket board to get India’s consent in black and white and include a clause for financial compensation if they back out of their commitment once again,” he said.
