While the Indian cricket team may be currently on top at the moment, one thing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not taken notice of in recent times is the simple fact that they have not cleared the payments for the players. Recently, the Board had announced a significant hike in the contracts for most players promoting a few to the A+ category as well. However, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary has come out in apology over the delay in remittance of the payments.

Chaudhary added that it was indeed true that the contracts were with him. He also added that the subsequent contracts require approval before being awarded. “Yes, the contracts are with me. If the House approves the revised pay structure tomorrow, I will sign it. In case they don’t, my hands are tied. Any policy decision needs approval of General Body and I can’t break the law,” BCCI’s acting secretary Chaudhary told PTI today.

Chaudhary went on to add that he did feel guilty about players not receiving their share of the money from the contracts. “I personally feel guilty that the players are not getting their remuneration on time. I have no clue what will be the decision of the General Body. But the proposals were there with the finance committee for a long time. The copy of contract has been sent to the secretary after the players have signed,” he said.

BCCI unlikely to pay PCB compensation

In addition to the contract meeting, one point that was heavily stressed upon in the meeting was the fact the 70 Million USD compensation for the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The PCB has accused the BCCI of not honoiring the agreement for a bilateral series. However, the ministry and the board has remained firm on the matter that both the national sides will not face each other until the political issues are solved.
