Former Sri Lankan skipper and T20 World Cup winner Kumar Sangakkara backed under-fire Indian MS Dhoni and attested that the Indians are among the stronger favourites to win the upcoming ICC World T20.

Speaking to the Times of India on Thursday, Sangakkara expressed his backing for MS Dhoni. The former skipper went on to satate that “Dhoni has been the longest-serving captain of a national team, where the game is considered a religion. I believe no one can understand the pressure of captaincy like Dhoni. So he knows it best when to give up on captaincy. And it is a dialogue which should happen between Dhoni and the selectors.”

Sangakkara also went on to mention that MS Dhoni[‘s successor Virat Kohli seems ready to take the burden of captaincy. “Kohli is aggressive on the field but knows how to conduct himself. “He looks ready for the job.” Sangakkara added.

While speaking about the Indian captaincy and the options ahead, Kumar Sangakkara also went on to speak about India’s chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He went on to state that, “Spin will be the key to winning matches in World T20.India will start as favorites. No one knows how to handle pressure better than Dhoni.”

The Sri Lankan southpaw who currently plays for Surrey, rolled back the years with a fantastic knock of 86 off 43 deliveries for the Gemini Arabians. Sangakkara also played a key role in Sri Lanka’s 2014 T20 world cup win in Bangladesh scoring 52 off 32 deliveries.
