India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the third T20I held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday, 8 December. David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India was one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. Captain, Virat Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Rod Tucker, Gerard Abood, TV umpire Paul Wilson, and fourth umpire Sam Nogajski levelled the charge.

India lose the final T20I by 12 runs

Australia managed to save themselves from whitewash by winning the third T20I at the SCG by 12 runs. Virat Kohli did his best with his 85-run knock but that wasn’t enough for the visitors to win the contest. Aaron Finch’s side was put to bat first after India won the toss. Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell powered Australia towards a total of 186 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs.

In reply, India lost KL Rahul in the first over for a duck. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan did well with a good partnership but the latter lost his wicket soon after he tried to accelerate the innings. However, the Indian skipper continued scoring runs for his team but those runs were never enough for his side.

Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli started smashing fours and sixes in the death overs. Zampa had the last laugh by dismissing Hardik in the 18th over. Later, Andrew Tye sent back Virat Kohli to keep his team’s position on top. At the end, Australia won the match by 12 runs. India clinched the series 2-1. India and Australia will next play four-match Test series starting from 17th of December in Adelaide.
