Sourav Ganguly is regarded as one of the best captains to have led Team India. Now, the legend himself was full praise of Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. More importantly, he was more than just content with the way team India is shaping up. India ensured a clinical 4-0 series win over England and are currently the number one ranked team in the world.

The former Indian skipper spoke at length about India’s resounding win over England. He had his word of praise for Virat Kohli, who led by example. Virat scored 655 runs in the series at an average close to 110.

“India are a deserved winners of the series, the whole team has been exceptional. Everyone stood to the occasion when needed. The captain stood by an example, played some terrific knocks and captained brilliantly,” as quoted by xtratime.in.

The southpaw also appreciated the way spinners bowled for India. Despite the tracks not being rank turners, Indian spinners rose to the occasion. R Ashwin bagged 28 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja ended with 26 wickets to his name.

“To win in pitches which are not rank turners, speaks volumes of the spin attack. The spinners worked hard for their wickets. The difference between the two teams were lack of quality spin attacks by England, you can’t win in the sub-continent with this spin attack,” remarked the former cricketer.

At the same time, Ganguly was wary of the fact that it is too soon to judge the team. Once this team succeeds in overseas conditions, they will be the true masters of the game. He believes this team has the capability to do exactly that.

“This team has the hunger to win to do well in test matches. But the real test will be when they go overseas in England, Australia, South Africa and do well. This team has it in them to do well abroad.”

The youngsters emerged as the dark horses for India. Jayant Yadav was a revelation with the bat in the lower order. Karun Nair had the big boots of Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma to fill. Nair did that in style with a staggering triple ton to his name. Sourav Ganguly appreciated his efforts and said, “There is a healthy competition in the team, with Karun Nair scoring triple hundred the place for Rohit Sharma seems difficult in the test matches, Ajinkya Rahane is a natural choice as he has scored and proved in different and difficult conditions. It’s too early to say Karun Nair a star but the kid has in him the temperament to do good in big occasions.”

India will next play Bangladesh in a one-off Test before clashing with Australia for a 4-match Test series. Giving a prediction about the same, the former Indian captain said India will win all five of those Tests.

He conceded, “India is going to win the next five tests, one with Bangladesh and four with Australia, at home”.
