India head coach Ravi Shastri congratulates AB de Villiers on his brilliant international career

The 34-year old announced his retirement rather abruptly.

On 23rd May 2018, the cricketing fraternity witnessed its one of the most shocking and unbelievable revelation in which premier South African batsman AB de Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket.  He was recently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was also in a sublime touch with his match-winning performances.

The huge fan base who have cheered for de Villiers in different parts of the world all during the time of his whole international career could not believe to the fact that the 360-degree batsman has already played his final match in the Protean colours. Team India head coach Ravi Shastri also posted a beautiful message on Twitter in appreciating de Villiers.

The story of AB de Villiers much more than his international numbers

De Villiers has represented the Proteas team in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs in which he has amassed a fine tally of 8765 and 9577 runs respectively. He has also scored 1672 runs from 78 T20Is, which includes 10 half-centuries. However, the stature and the recognition which the South African cricketer has gained in the cricketing world speaks much more beyond his numbers in international cricket. He is one of the most celebrated and humble cricketers who has contributed a lot to the success of the sport.

The decision of de Villiers’ retirement raised disbelief as the batsman was presently in his prime form in the international circuit. He made his fine comeback in Test cricket with a couple of match-winning contributions during the Test series against India. He also looked in a magnificent form during the lastly concluded four-match Test series against Australia.

Shastri in his recent tweet mentioned that de Villiers has done great unbelievable wonders during the modern era of the game. The former Indian cricketer congratulated the Protean batsman on his brilliant career and stated him as a thorough gentleman and role model to millions of people.

“Brilliant player. Did wonders for the modern era of the game. A thorough gentleman and role model to millions. Take a bow ABD.@ABdeVilliers17” wrote Shastri on Twitter.
