'India is a powerhouse' - Kevin Pietersen analyses the recent happenings in the cricket world

Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has analysed all the major happenings in the cricket world in the week gone by and came up with an expert opinion regarding how things have panned out and what could be the ideal outcome according to him.

As far as the on-field action is concerned, England had an outstanding week as they created new records in the second Test match against New Zealand, and their white-ball team rewrote record books a couple of days later. Apart from this, the IPL media rights were sold at a staggering rate for the next five years i.e. from the 2023-2027 cycle.

The four things from the week gone by that caught Kevin Pietersen’s attention

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Pietersen highlighted the four things that made the headlines last week. His first point was England batters’ brilliant mindset and positive intent in red-ball cricket and he gave a special mention to the newly appointed Test coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes. He also praised England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) managing director of men’s cricket Robert Key.

The Three Lions went on to chase down 299 in just 50 overs on the final day courtesy of Jonny Bairstow’s explosive 92-ball 136 to win the Test series 2-0.

In his second tweet, the cricketer-turned-commentator mentioned how he and former English skipper Michael Atherton have done an article on the England team’s potential to wonders in red-ball cricket and at the same time, he backed Brendon McCullum to take the Test team to great heights. Notably, the Three Lions registered their first Test series win after January 2021.

He then gave a shout-out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for grabbing a massive IPL TV rights deal for the next five years and also backed them to build world-class stadiums for their passionate viewers and players. The IPL media rights were sold for an unbelievable sum of INR 23,575 crore to Disney Star for the Indian sub-continent TV rights and the digital rights were sold to the Reliance industries-owned Viacom18 for INR  20,500 crore.

3. The new TV rights deal for the IPl was HUGE! When you see those numbers, I think the BCCI will now improve the stadiums for the viewers, players etc.

In his fourth and final tweet, Pietersen labeled the England white-ball team as ‘fabulous’. The reigning ODI world champions registered a world record ODI score of 498/4 in the first ODI against the Netherlands on Friday, June 17. They broke their own record of 481 that they had registered against the then World Cup holders Australia in June 2018.

Apart from that, even Jos Buttler registered the second-fastest ODI century for England from 47 balls. He himself holds the record for slamming the fastest century off 46 deliveries.
