The Indian team had wonderful last world cup as they emerged the champions at home winning the ICC cricket world cup 2011. Four years have passed by and the team still continues to do well in the limited overs format. Though surprisingly very few members of the victorious squad have been retained in the present squad of 15 for the world cup 2015.

Experience of the last team has been replaced by young legs for the world cup 2015 to be played in Australia and New Zeland. The leader MS Dhoni has survided the test of time and will captain the Indian team second time in world cups. India have expressly done well under him in ODIs as they were also crowned the Champions Trophy winners in England two years into their ODI champions reign.Team India will go in this time to Australia and New Zealand to defend their title.
Overall records for India at the ICC cricket world cup have been mixed, the team has won the trophy twice first under the Haryana Hurricane Kapil Dev in 1983 and then under Captain Cool MS Dhoni in 2011. Apart from that the journey Sourav Ganguly’s team scripted in 2003 was historic as they ended the world cup being second best to Australia.

Sachin Tendulkar has been not only India’s but the highest run getter in world cup cricket and has 2278 runs in 45 matches that he has played which is also the most number of games for an Indian. He has scored record 6 centuries in world cup history and also has 21, 50+ scores. For the first time since 1992 India will play a world cup without Sachin and will be a real test of character for the young batting line up led by vice-captain Virat Kohli.

The bowling department which post the Kapil Dev team era has always been the let down and a concerning cog for India has Zaheer Khan as the most successful bowler with 44 wickets. While Ashish Nehra’s 6/23 against England in the 2003 world cup remains as the best bowling figures for an Indian in world cup cricket. Fast bowling attack as well has changed completely as no mutual name in both the teams. Ishant Sharma will spearhead India’s bowling department this time around with others to aid and R Ashwin continues to occupy the specialist spinners seat with R Jadeja as the all-rounder.
