The mental conditioning camp for the Team India players prior to the start of the ODI series in Pune has been canceled following a few requests from the players questioning the need for such a camp. This reportedly was the brainchild of Indian coach Anil Kumble who wanted the team to get into the groove before the start of the series.

This particular camp was supposed to begin on the 10th of January and conclude on the 12th before the Indian team flies out to Pune to begin practice for the match on the 13th. A source from the BCCI went on to state that some of the players did not see the need for the conditioning camp and instead called for an extended practice session ahead of the first ODI at Pune.

“The likes of Kohli wanted more rest before the ODI and T20 series against England and that is why the camp was called off. The team will have an extended nets sessions in Pune now,“ a BCCI source said Times of India.

“The team management did weigh the work-load on the cricketers. But there are some like ODI captain MS Dhoni who will have a good opportunity at the camp to get into the groove,“ the source added.

R Ashwin (sports hernia), Rohit Sharma (thigh), Ajinkya Rahane (finger), Hardik Pandya (shoulder), Mohammad Shami (knee), Axar Patel (finger) and Jayant Yadav (hamstring) is the complete list of Indian players who are suffering from injuries at the moment.

This also, however, opens up options for the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and a few others who are fit and have been performing well in the domestic circuit in the season. 33-year old leg-spinner Amit Mishra will also be in a position to redeem himself after a disappointing Test series.

England will play two practice matches before the start of their ODI series against India in Pune on the 15th of January. There will be three ODIs and T20Is played succeeding the practice matches.
