A brilliant all-round bowling performance by Indians on day 3 set up the series in India’s favour as the hosts need just 87 more runs to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After India took the lead in the morning session, Australia came back to keep it down to 32 runs by taking out last 4 wickets for 15 runs.

Yet another brilliant spell of bowling from Umesh Yadav triggered the dismantling of Australian batting with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin completing the formalities. India safely played out six over of play in the last few minutes scoring 19/0 in quest of their 106-run target. Here we look at all the stats and numbers recorded during the day’s play.

1 – For the first time in Indian first-class cricket, two bowlers took 80+ wickets in a single season: Ravi Ashwin took 82 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja took 81 wickets in 2016/17 season. Previously, there are only 7 instances of bowlers taking 80+ wickets in an Indian FC season.

4 – Ravindra Jadeja became the 4th Indian after Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh to score 3000+ runs and take 300+ wickets in International cricket. Overall, he is the 24th player to achieve this feat.

4 – Jadeja became the 4th Indian to score two fifties and take two 5-wicket hauls in a Test series. Kapil Dev (twice), Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravi Ashwin (twice) have done this before.

6 – Number of fifty plus scores Ravindra Jadeja has in Tests in 2016/17 season, the joint 2nd most for an India in this Test season. Only Cheteshwar Pujara (12) has more 50+ scores than Jadeja. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay too had 6 fifty plus scores in this season.

6 – Number of fifty plus scores Jadeja has in Tests in 2016/17 season while batting at No.7 or lower, the joint 2nd most for any player in a season. Adam Gilchrist in 2004/05 and Quinton de Kock in 2016/17 have 7 scores of 50 or more in Tests.

17 – Wickets taken by Umesh Yadav in this Test series, the joint most by an Indian pacer in a Test series at home in the last 30 years. Javagal Srinath took 17 wickets vs South Africa in 1996.

17 – Wickets taken by Umesh Yadav in this Test series, the 4th most by an Indian pacer in a Test series against Australia and most against them at home. His tally is the most for an Indian pacer vs Australia in last 25 years.

21 – Number of sixes Ravindra Jadeja has hit in Test cricket in 2016/17 season, the joint 3rd most by any player in Tests in a season. Only Adam Gilchrist (26 in 2004/05) and Brendon McCullum (24 in 2014/15) hit more sixes in a Test season. M Hayden too hit 21 sixes in 2003/04 season.

50 – Nathan Lyon’s 5-wicket haul is the 50th 5-fer in first-class cricket at Dharamsala. Lyon’s feat was only the 8th at this venue by a spinner and the first one since 2008.

66 – Wriddhiman Saha became the 66th Indian to aggregate 1000 runs in Test cricket. Jadeja was 65th Indian to get there.

538 – Runs aggregated by Ravindra Jadeja in 2016/17 while batting at No.7 or lower in Tests, the most by an Indian and 10th most overall. He went past Kapil Dev’s 524 runs in 1986/87 season.

854 – Balls faced by Australia in this Test, the 4th fewest they played in a Test against India after getting bowled out in both the innings. These are the lowest they faced in a Test against India since 821 balls at Perth, 2008.
